Heart-right side pumps blood to your lungs where it picks up oxygen
-left side pumps oxygen-soaked blood out to the rest of your body -strongest muscle in your body |
Arteries-blood begins to move it leave the heart from the left ventricle it goes into the aorta
-rich blood travels throughout the body in a system of arteries -arteries are tough tubes -as arteries move away from the heart they divide into smaller vessels - largest arteries are about as hick as a thumb -smallest arteries are thinner than a hair |
Capillaries-very thin and fragile
-blood cells can only pass through the capillary in single file -red blood cells inside the capillary release their oxygen, which passes through the wall and into the surrounding tissue -releases heat -blood delivers the heat to the capillaries, which then rapidly releases it to the tissue |
Veins-veins carry blood to the heart
-venules (smallest vein) are very thin -venules join larger veins that open up the heart -veins don't need to be as strong as arteries because as blood is returned to the heart it is under less pressure -veins carry dark red blood that doesn't have much oxygen |
Blood-blood leaving the aorta is full of oxygen
-blood is made up of different kind of cells |
